Civic Newsroom – Cocreations

They bring a total of 21 composers, librettists, directors, singers, musicians, stage and costume designers from Germany, Great Britain, Iran, Italy, Russia, Sweden and Austria together for this project and its subsequent premiere in Vienna.
The topics for the new short operas are specified by Kruse and Scheib, as well as their cooperation partners: For the first issue of CIVIC NEWSROOM, the areas are diversity & participation, the hopes for the future & “What do I wish for tomorrow?”, ecology & sustainability are starting points for the artistic work of the three teams. The artists take up current social issues and like reporter engage with local community members. They then use the skills of modern music theater to shine a new light on current discourses.
The following institutions were won as cooperation partners and venues for the first CIVIC NEWSROOM: KUNST HAUS WIEN/Museum Hundertwasser, Kulturhaus Brotfabrik and CAPE 10 – House of Social Innovation.
The entire process of the three operas in development can be followed live via social media from May 19 to May 22. Anyone who is interested in partticipating has the opportunity to get involved directly on May 19 from 4:30 p.m. Three days later, the audience is invited to see the end result in the form of sight-specific, station theater with free admission and an exchangeof thoughts and ideas with the participating artists aftter each performance.

CIVIC OPERA CREATIONS (COCREATIONS) is a producer for new innovative music theater and opera created in dialogue and thought exchange between communities and artists. In connection with new technologies and impulses from interdisciplinary scenes,we expand the traditional opera space and its narratives. Founded in Vienna in 2020, COCREATIONS builds bridges between traditional and new structures and creates new methods of cooperation and reference to establish opera as a representative part of the 21st century and a place for repeated encounters.
