Leonhard Garms

Leonhard Garms grew up in Rome. He studied conducting, vocal accompaniment and music theory at Kunstuniversität Graz and participated in masterclasses with Peter Eötvös, Arturo Tamayo and Paavo Järvi. After his studies he worked as pianist and conductor at Komische Oper Berlin, Theater Regensburg and at the Turkish State Opera Istanbul as well as assisting conductors such as Kirill Petrenko, Stefano Ranzani, Peter Rundel and Emilio Pomarico in festival productions and opera companies around the world. Since 2013 Leonhard Garms has been working as freelance conductor specialized on contemporary music and music theatre.

Leonhard Garms wuchs in Rom auf. Er studierte Dirigieren, Korrepetition und Musiktheorie an der Kunstuniversität Graz und besuchte Meisterkurse bei Peter Eötvös, Arturo Tamayo und Paavo Järvi. Nach dem Studium führten ihn Engagements an die Komische Oper Berlin, ans Theater Regensburg und an die Türkische Staatsoper Istanbul sowie anschließend zu zahlreichen internationalen Festivals und Opernhäusern als Assistent von Dirigenten wie Kirill Petrenko, Stefano Ranzani, Peter Rundel und Emilio Pomarico. Seit 2013 ist er freiberuflicher Dirigent mit einem Schwerpunkt auf neue Musik und zeitgenössisches Musiktheater.
