Manuel Alcaraz Clemente

Manuel Alcaraz Clemente is a Spanish percussionist, specializing in the interpretation of contemporary music. He is mainly active as a soloist, chamber and ensemble musician, as well as an educator. Manuel is currently based in Graz, Austria. As a soloist, his versatility ranges from playing classic contemporary music repertoire for percussion, to regularly working with young composers, who are recognized in the international contemporary music scene for the creation of new pieces and innovative interpretations. Since 2016, he has been the percussionist of Ensemble Schallfeld (AT) and Noviga Projekto (PT/AT) Besides his work in these formations, he freelances regularly with Contemporary Music Ensembles and Orchestras such as Klangforum Wien, Lucerne Festival Alumni, Recreation Grosses Orchester Graz, Mdi Ensemble, among many others. In addition, he has performed in several festivals including the Lucerne Festival (CH), Wien Modern (AT), Internationale Ferienkurse für Neue Musik Darmstadt (DE), Klangspuren Schwaz (AT), Afekt Festival (EST), Impuls Festival and Steirischer Herbst (AT) and the Huddersfield Contemporary Music Festival (EN). He offers regularly workshops and masterclasses for composers and percussionists in Austria, Portugal, Spain and Slovenia. Manuel received his Bachelor Degree at ESMuC (Catalonia College of Music, Barcelona). In 2015, he completed his Master in solo performance at ESMAE (Oporto, Portugal). In January 2018 he completed the Master Program ‘PPCM (Practice and Performance of Contemporary Music)’, where he worked alongside the members of Klangforum Wien. The current season includes among other activities, the premiere of Pierluigi Billone’s new piece for percussion solo and ensemble, written for Manuel Alcaraz Clemente and the Ensemble Schallfeld, and financed by the Ernst von Siemens Musikstiftung; as well as the premiere of “An Elemental Thing”, Manuel Alcaraz Clemente’s new solo project. Since 2019 Manuel is Marimba One™ Educational Artist.

Manuel Alcaraz Clemente ist ein spanischstämmiger Schlagwerker, der sich auf die Interpretation Neuer Musik spezialisiert hat. Aktiv ist er hauptsächlich als Solist, Kammermusiker, Ensembleschlagwerker und gefragter Pädagoge. Seine solistischen Tätigkeiten reichen vom Spielen klassischen Neue Musik Repertoires bis hin zu regelmäßiger Zusammenarbeit mit jungen Komponistinnen und Komponisten, die sich in der internationalen Neuen Musik Szene für das Schaffen neuer Werke und innovativer Interpretationen einen Namen gemacht haben. Seit 2016 ist Manuel Alcaraz Clemente Mitglied des Ensembles Schallfeld in Graz (AT) sowie des Duos Noviga Projekto (PT/AT). Außerdem arbeitet er freischaffend regelmäßig mit Neue Musik Ensembles und Orchestern wie dem Klangforum Wien, den Lucerne Festival Alumni, dem Recreation Großes Orchester Graz und dem Mdi Ensemble u.a. Er folgte Einladungen zum Lucerne Festival, Wien Modern, den Internationalen Ferienkursen für Neue Musik Darmstadt, dem Festival Klangspuren Schwaz (Tirol), Afekt Festival (Estland), dem Impuls Festival und Steirischen Herbst (Graz) und dem Huddersfield Contemporary Music Festival. Manuel Alcaraz Clemente gibt Meisterkurse und Workshops an verschiedenen Universitäten und Musikschulen in Österreich, Portugal, Spanien und Slowenien. Er absolvierte das Bachelorstudium an der Musikhochschule ESMuC in Barcelona, ein künstlerisches Masterstudium an der Musikhochschule ESMAE in Porto und ist Absolvent des Masterstudiengangs Performance Practice in Contemporary Music der Kunstuniversität Graz unter der Leitung des Klangforum Wien. In dieser Saison steht unter anderem die Premiere von Pierluigi Billones neuem Werk für Solo Schlagwerk und Ensemble an, welches eigens für Manuel Alcaraz Clemente und das Ensemble Schallfeld geschrieben wurde und von der Ernst von Siemens Musikstiftung finanziert wird. Außerdem wird Manuel Alcaraz Clemente sein neues Soloprojekt “An Elemental Thing” uraufführen. Seit 2019 ist Manuel Marimba One™ Educational Artist.
