Since 2018, we are cooperating with the Styrian Regional School Board and the Conto Musicale association, offering workshops for contemporary techniques and improvisation in music schools.
Konfrontationen are a series of music workshops with Styrian pupils that take place at music schools throughout the province and culminate in a public presentation as part of the musikprotokoll festival.
As a fixed part of our pedagogical activities, a cooperation with the Fux Conservatory Graz has also emerged since 2021 as part of the KONSonanzen series, where we develop new chamber music with advanced music students, which is presented in a joint concert.

Sound Seekers

When sounds are hidden, one must go on a search for them. This has been done by pupils at schools in Styria that have dedicated themselves to fostering musical talents: the Musikmittelschule in Stallhofen, the BORG in Hartberg (with instrumental music and singing), the Stiftsgymnasium in Admont, the Musikgymnasium in Graz, and the Musikschule in Weiz. Young people experiment with new sounds in cooperation with musicians from the Schallfeld Ensemble and composers of contemporary music: How can I discover new and unusual sounds in my instrument, my surroundings, or myself? How can I use them in musical contexts? How do I create a piece from all of this? Improvisation and collective composition give rise to works in which the discoveries of the young musicians become audible.

Short films, videos, signs and symbols, graphic scores, mental images: sound images serve as the conceptual starting point for this year’s konfrontationen 7. Participating in the musikprotokoll program for the third time, the konfrontationen project was founded in 2010 by the association Conto musicale as a cross- generational creative platform. It offers a space for artists from various genres to develop artistic concepts in collaboration with young people and to present them in live performances. In 2018, members of the Graz-based ensemble Schallfeld and ensemble zeitfluss have joined forces with students from Styrian schools to conceive new works of sound art, confronting the acoustic and visual universes of different generations in an exciting encounter.
